Last week our customer Frank dropped off his Glide bench seat frame #SP-45 for his 57 Bel Air. He had already had it upholstered along with his original rear seat by another upholsterer in Northern California. Unfortunately, he was unhappy with the job his upholsterer did. There was exposed hinge hardware on both sides that the guy painted to match the vinyl and the overall style just didn’t sit well with our customer. Traditionally, this type of bench seat has a flat seat bottom but Frank wanted something more contoured that made the seat feel like you were sitting in a buckets. He saw our El Camino bench seat and wanted the same type of shape with the built up side bolster and the hump under the arm rest.
We took the cover off, completely replaced the foam and modified it according to his requests. We made new patterns and upholstered both the front and rear seat in Katzkin Bone vinyl. I think this seat turned out pretty cool. This is a little different than what is standard for this kind of classic car with Frank’s personal touch and it’s uniqueness will give Frank a little more pride than he already has while driving it. We’re so grateful to have been a part of it.
